WIP Wednesday: What I’m currently working on

Posted on August 19, 2026August 16, 2026 By marthathurston

This particular project has been one that has been on the backburner for quite some time now. I wrote The Larsen Strain back in 2007 to 2008. The idea started in the early 2000s after a conversation I had with my brother. We were talking about UFOs and the new government planes, and I remember jotting down some notes. I know what you’re thinking: How do you get viruses from government planes and UFOs? You see, I’m not a lateral thinker. One thing doesn’t always lead straight to another. Sometimes it pings off of other ideas and I get an A-Ha moment out of the blue. Sort of like this.

Anyhow, I wrote the book. It was a huge undertaking. Much of it I wrote by hand. Some typed. It took me 8 years from concept to publishing. Once published, I got a bad review. And you know what? They were right. I removed the book from market and set out to fix the issue. In that time, I practiced… a lot! I wrote… a lot!

I am happy to say that I have finally sat down and refreshed The Larsen Strain. I fixed the character issues that the reader had with one of my characters. I repaired a few plot holes that seemed disconnected. In other words, I overhauled it to make sure that it read the way that it should.

I am currently in the process of doing a final proofread and revision so that I can put it back up on the market. The goal is to have it ready by September 1st. Of course, as a full time teacher, I’m also limited by time, so I have to find every spare moment that I can to work on it, so that sort of slows down the process. In fact, I’ve been so busy with the teaching aspect of my life that I haven’t had time for anything creative. For example, I usually write my blog posts on Saturdays and schedule them to publish during the week. Today is Sunday as I write this, and I still have school stuff to work on.

Just keep an eye on the website or social media. I’ll let you know when The Larsen Strain drops.
